Abstract
This Research proves the positive effect of Gestalt-Group-Counseling (GSC) on the development of self-control in middle school students. We developed a customized form of GSC fitted to the individual developmental needs of our students on the data acquired by previous GSC programs. Our designated research group was the entire 3rdyear of the ``B Middle School``, located in Pusan. We introduced them to the GSC including our goals and motives. Then we randomly selected 22 students, of all those willing to participate in the program, and provided them with a weekly session each, over the course of 10 weeks, giving them a total of 10 GSC sessions. Each session being around 80 to 100 minutes in length, were conducted personally by the researcher. The data from preliminary examinations was designated as covariance and the thereby corrected mean value was then compared to the gathered data from the intervention and control group. The results were as following: Firstly, the participants of the GSC program exhibited an overall increase of self-control, thereby showing the effectivity of the GSC program. Secondly, when all other underlying factors were analyzed, there was a significant increase the self control especially involving rage, anger, impulsive behavior, as well as during adventure. On the basis of the results from this study one can conclude that the Gestalt-Group-Counseling(or GSC) can improve self-control in middle school students, particularly noticeable in an increased anger-management and a decrease in impulsive behavior.
